DIY: Yarn Wall Hanging

6:00:00 PM

Did you know that one of March's themes is National Craft Month? I definitely didn't!

I've been wanting to post a few DIY tutorials for a while now, and I figured when is a better time to start than the month dedicated to crafts?!

I love creating these beautiful yarn hangings for multiple reasons. They are so easy to create and you can personalize them in so many ways! I'm kind of a supply hoarder when it comes to DIY, so of course I've got every color yarn under the sun! You can change your colors, your design, and even your base.

For today's DIY tutorial, you'll need the following materials:

  • Metal craft rings
  • A tape measure
  • A ruler
  • A pair of scissors
  • Yarn
1. Grab a metal ring to start! I like to use a 7 inch ring, but you can use whatever size you like :)

2. Decide on your yarn colors, I usually like to stick to 4 or less. Once you've decided, you'll begin cutting. I wanted the yarn to hang at about 2 feet, so I double it and cut each piece 4 feet long. If your base is wide, you'll want to make sure to add a couple of extra inches. The number of pieces you'll use varies on the size of your base.

3.  Pick up a piece of your yarn and then fold it in half.

4. Wrap your piece around the ring and place the free ends through the loop. Make sure to pull tight!

5. You will repeat steps 3 and 4 with all different colors of yarn. Use as many as you wish to create your ideal design or pattern.

6. Cut one more piece of yarn to hang your wall hanging. Think about the desired length you'd like it to be and then double it. You will fold this one in half and attach it just like you did in steps 3 and 4. Make sure you pull it tight and then tie a not at the top.

7. Once your wall hanging is up on the wall, you can use your scissors to cut the bottom of the yarn. I personally like the shape it creates on its own, but you can also cut the yarn straight a cross too.

I hope you liked this tutorial! I plan on posting a lot more of them. I'm always interested in hearing what tutorials you'd like to see! Just let me know in the comments!

If you decide to create one of your own, I'd love to see how it comes out! Feel free to tag me in your pictures! :)
